Day 9 (6.20.2022) Our Situation Room at Alma By Drew Bern

Today our group walked into the Alma Research and Education Center in Tefen, Israel near the Lebanese Border. We met with Shay Shemesh and we split into five different branches of the Israeli Government for a simulation exercise. We were given detailed background materials, and then had ten minutes to come up with a solution about anti-ship missiles and whether or not to attack the warehouse where they were located in Lebanon. After receiving “advice” from the 5 branches of government, our Prime Minister who was played by Cohort 8’s Abbe Newman made the choice to attack the warehouse. In the long run it turned out to start a war along the Northern Border with attacks on both sides. President Joe Biden of the United States, President Emanuel Macron of France and President Vladimir Putin of Russia (which was also dealing with the Ukraine crisis) condemned and continued to support Israel while on the other hand Ayatollah Khomeini continued with attacks and has no plan to stop. Syria said they would continue to support Hezbollah. In this simulation our group enjoyed acting out the parts and saw what the Israeli Government has to carefully consider in order to decide what their action will be.
