SIR2020-21

SOCIALLY DISTANT, SOCIALLY CONNECTED PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Introduction – During the 2020-21 academic year, @akiva took a different approach to our Scholars in Residence program. We recognized that the COVID-19 pandemic had changed what bringing guests to Cleveland would look like, and have shifted the program to focus on small groups, hybrid learning, and initiatives that reach learners in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Understanding that the pandemic has led to a rise in feelings of isolation and the need for connection, we are excited to provide opportunities for our partners and community to explore content and process through a variety of programs.
SIR 1: FESTIVAL OF LIGHT
(DECEMBER 10-18 2020)

Festival of Light (December 10 - 18)

Surrounding Chanukah, our content focus will be on the Holocaust and moving from darkness to light. On December 14, we will host our annual teen Zikaron Ba’Salon commemoration, which will bring groups of teens together with Holocaust survivors and their descendants (in a socially distant way) to hear stories of survival and to reflect on their own Jewish identities.
SIR 2: ISRAEL IN SHORTS
(JANUARY - FEBRUARY, 2021)
SIR 3: ISRAEL WEEK
(MARCH 7-14 2021)
Israel Week (March 7 - 14)
@akiva is excited to present our newest initiative for the Cleveland Jewish community – Israel Week! As most of you know, in pre-pandemic times, we were proud to bring a delegation of high school seniors to AIPAC Policy Conference annually. While due to our current circumstances, that of course isn’t possible, we’re excited to once again pivot and to open Israel Week to *all* Cleveland teens.
