Day 10 (6.21.2022): A Visit To Beit Shean Museum By Shana Steinberg

Today our group visited the museum of Beit She’an. We got to meet with  Tali Oren who explained in detail the history of the city.
Beit She’an has an extensive history dating back around 2,000 years. It even has biblical significance. Before 1948, the area was populated by Arabs. However, after the liberation of Israel, Jews started moving to the area. Some of the first Jews that arrived here were holocaust survivors seeking refuge. They were first put anywhere they could fit, including abandoned villages and other buildings. As the city developed over time, these people were moved to real homes fit for human life.
It was interesting seeing pictures of Beit She’an from different periods in time since they portrayed just how much the area has changed. I’m happy that some people took the time to find these old pictures and artifacts, so that future generations can have tangible items from Jewish history in Beit She’an.
