Since I am able to have the great opportunity to have fresh and clean water all the time, I don’t always think about those not as fortunate as me.
On Tuesday we were able to meet with Oded Rahav, an environmental activist. I felt very educated after our discussion with him. To be completely honest, ahead of time I was not looking forward to having to blog on this specific night. However, I do have to say that out of all the discussions we’ve had this trip this has been the one I was most interested in and I really enjoyed where the conversation went. Most of our conversations have been mainly focused on different aspects of levels of Judaism and those conversations are a lot harder for me to keep up with and relate to. This conversation focused on the social reform angle which I am very passionate about.
Now back to Oded. One of the first images Oded showed us during his presentation was a picture of several young children in Uganda having to dig to get their water. This picture really got to me because it showed how much harder it is for them to get water than me. I have easy access to clean water and these children have to dig every day to get even a little bit of clean water.
Oded also participates in events to help raise awareness for saving our planet. In 2014, Oded along 5 other Israelis broke a world record and swam 380 kilometers in 124 hours from Cyprus to Israel. The six set out to complete this world record to raise awareness for saving the sea and preventing water pollution.
Oded is an inspiration to all and is inspiring the youth, especially me, to take a stand and help save the planet. This is a very important matter that needs to get taken care of or soon there will be no more planet!
